![]() Our maid made sure our room was spotless everyday. If you have a little one you know how much sand can get into their diapers, which ends up on the floor. We brought down many gifts to give to our maid, and she made our room fantastic. We found that it was better to shower before dinner because that was when there was a lot more hot water. Opt for the second floor to get more shelter from the sun and rain. We were on the 3rd floor of the villa and while at the time it seemed nice, the overhang of the roof only covered half of the balcony so when it rained you still got wet. It came with twin beds and we were supplied with a crib for our son. We had a room in right on the beach that was very comfortable for our needs. To top if off he would dip his fingers in the rum, then high five you with his flaming hand. For the finally he would pour rum onto the saucer the cup was sitting in, take a ladle of rum, light it then pour the flaming rum over the coffee. Every once in a while he would sprinkle chocolate powder to get some sparkling effects onto the flaming beverage. Hot coffee was poured in next to douse the flames and a heaping spoonful of vanilla ice cream on top. Coffee liquor would go in next, more rum, more fire dancing. Next he would pour rum into the glass, flame it, then do a bit of a dance with the flaming rum. He would pour rum into a saucer, flame it, dip the rim of a glass in then douse it into sugar. One of the highlights was a man making Spanish coffees with an amazing flair and flames. My father-in-law had a go at every drink on the list. I don't like sweet drinks and there certainly was a lot of them. ![]() A little tip in hand certainly help with someone that wasn't quite as generous. Depending on who served you would often depend on how strong you drink was. There were a 3 bars open from 10:00 am, and it was very easy to get a drink, no lines at all. The beach bar served buffet lunch from 12:20 to 2:30 in the afternoon, it was fish and chips, pasta, pizza, hamburgers, hot-dogs, and grilled chicken. I couldn't believe how much food there was. The main buffet had a huge selection of food to choose from, hot dishes, cold dishes, desserts. I know that I'm not picky at all about food, I'll try anything once, but I couldn't see how someone could not find something to eat. The next night at the buffet they had the surplus Mexican food and it was much better. I wasn't too thrilled about the Mexican not because it was terrible but more for that is wasn't anything special. We ate at the a la carte restaurants twice. There were a lot of great little tide pools small enough for the perfect spot of a 2 year old to play in. There is an area right in front of the beach bar for swimming but the rest of the beach area is rocky corral with a lot of sea hedgehogs. Bring some water shoes because the isn't completely dredged out for swimming. It was perfect for getting our son out of the blazing sun. Thatched roofed huts lined the beach as well as trees that let dappled light through. What is fantastic about this beach is the amount of shade available. We never lacked for beach chairs, regardless of what time we went down. If you are looking to have a very relaxing time on a practically deserted beach then this is the place to come. Don't let this dissuade you from coming though. The disco has been moved into one of the beach restaurants. What looked like a great disco, steps from the beach is now ruins, and the four restaurants have been closed, only one restaurant is being used for all of the a la meals. At one point it looked like the resort was much larger but for some reasons I haven't bothered to find out, it has been slowly condensing. If you are looking to party and perhaps pickup a little something on the side, this is not the resort for you. Take heart, everyone is used to the type of driving that goes on and are very much aware of the traffic style. ![]() But be forewarned, if you aren't used to helmet less motorcycle riders dodging traffic, transport trucks passing buses on a blind corner, or kids riding donkeys by the side of the road, you're in for a treat. The drive wound through a very scenic and beauty part of the country. Luperon Beach resort is located about an hour and a half west of Puerto Plata.
